Departing from Zurich (ZRH)

The regulation applies to every departure from Zurich, including airlines from outside Europe such as Emirates or United. For arrivals in Zurich from a non-EU country it only applies if the airline is from Switzerland, the EU, Iceland or Norway, for example SWISS or Edelweiss. The enforcement body is FOCA (BAZL).

FAQ

Does it apply to Emirates from Zurich?

Yes. For departures from Switzerland it applies to every airline (Art. 3(1)(a)). It does not apply to the return flight from Dubai with Emirates.

How much compensation can I get?

It depends on the great-circle distance: €250 up to 1,500 km, €400 for 1,500–3,500 km (and for all flights over 1,500 km within the EU/EEA/Switzerland), €600 above 3,500 km. Under certain conditions the amount is halved (Art. 7(2)).
